The US News and World Report rankings of physical therapy programs are meaningless. They may have mattered in the past but no student really cares about them now or should care about them. No program should care either. They’re really just a popularity contest and a vanity. The primary factors that will influence the decision of applicants to choose a physical therapy program now are affordability/ROI, NPTE pass rates, and employment opportunities post-graduation. Secondary factors may include location, program culture, clinical rotation opportunities, and quality/prestige of the faculty. The sooner programs realize this point, the better it will be for the profession. #physicaltherapy

A Scoping Review of Universal Design for Learning in United States Allied Health & Medical EducationBy: Karolina Gawron, OTD; Madison J. Tomlinson, OTD; Nicole U. Mohan, candidate OTD; Laura VanPuymbrouck, PhD., OTR/LUniversal design for learning (UDL) is considered best-practice for embracing inclusion for students with disabilities and there is growing evidence of its effectiveness in primary, secondary, and postsecondary education. However, little is known about if and how UDL is being implemented into United States graduate allied health and medical school curriculum as well as evidence of its benefits. Keep updating your beliefs!I’ve taught at PT Solutions Physical Therapy and developed content for about 8 years and my understanding of the evidence has drastically grown in that time. Furthermore, some of the evidence I focused on then is no longer relevant or best practice today (like the YouTube video I did on “proper” lifting technique, working on an update). One of the things I love most about the PT Solutions Physical Therapy residency is it constantly updates. The faculty regularly change the content, update the readings, and acknowledge how our beliefs and understanding of evidence have evolved. We shouldn’t teach and practice the same way year after year. As the evidence evolves, so should our clinical practice a s education to the public.

It’s no secret that providing a Physical Assessment or Exam is a CRITICAL component of caring for your patient. It will help you gather objective information, identify health issues, and craft effective treatment plans. However, after doing some research and talking with the Preceptors in our network, we found out that Learning how to provide an excellent and accurate physical examination is really challenging. To the point where NP students really struggle and lack confidence when it comes to giving a physical exam. The true is classroom training and clinical training are VERY different experiences. Every single one of our preceptors says the same thing:The only way to get better at physical examination is through PRACTICE!With the help of Dr. Sandra Pagenta, DNP, APRN-BC, and Jackie King, APRN, FNP-BC, we hope to give you a foundation so you can go to your rotation with more confidence. Now, at NPHub, we made it our mission to connect you with the highest quality preceptors in the country. We also wanted to help our students with common concerns that they’ve expressed over the years, one of them being doing physicals. Therefore, we created a step-by-step guide that will show you how to advance your physical assessment skills as well as treat other common conditions that you will encounter along your journey.Download our FREE guide here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eymhaQXu#PhysicalExamination #HealthcareTraining #npstudent #nursepractitioner #npschool

The goal of every clinical rotation as a Physical Therapy student should be to crush it to such an extent that the clinic would feel stupid not hiring you upon graduation. You can put yourself in this position by:1. Memorizing the names of everyone in the office before your first day. Go around and introduce yourself to every staff member in the office on your first day.2. Striving to be well-liked, not only by your Patients but also by your Clinical Instructor, the Clinic Director/Owner, and the Front Office staff. Never speak negatively about anyone.3. Arriving early with a plan for each patient on your caseload. 4. Asking so many questions that your CI is on the verge of getting annoyed.5. Using any downtime to practice your hands-on skills (Grab your CI, a fellow student, or an aide).6. Not rushing out of the clinic when the day ends. Even if your CI does. Even if you don't want to work in that particular clinic, don't enjoy the staff, or dislike the patient population, your primary aim should still be to get a job offer. This signal with give you confidence, options, and a strong network.

Most troublesome thing I heard at Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) LSL 2023 in Seattle? From a group of pre-clinical faculty:📑 "What is even the point of year 1, year 2 in medical school anymore?" 🚩 "I don't even know what our role is, no one comes to class, we can't even get the students on campus".💻 "We don't have any support for what we are being asked to do- moving away from lecture based instruction!"Its the worst of both worlds- calling it "flipped classroom" in name only while continuing to ask students and faculty to operate in a traditional pre-clinical curriculum. Lacking a big picture of the continuum from year 1- year 4. Mixed messages on USMLE and COMLEX prep. What problems are you seeing in your institution? What schools are doing something right?Where do we go from here?

A Board composition matrix was developed for the new college to ensure Board members as a group bring diverse practice, lived experience, provincial geography, and professional skills to the table. The six registrant members of the first Board are:·Jennifer Ann Agnew (physical therapist)·Russell Ebata (doctor of optometry)·Jamie Lee Hack (speech-language pathologist)·Sue Randhawa (optician)·Deborah Jean Ruggiero (occupational therapist)·Oliver Yergeau (dietitian)CHCPBC will be regulating nine professions on June 28, therefore not every profession will have a seat on the Board. However, maintaining a deep, profession-specific understanding and capacity within the overall governance of the new college remains vital. For this reason, the new college’s governance framework also ensures profession-specific capacity at the Committee and staff levels. With the new college being a larger organization, consultation with the professions and the public is also expected to increase.Discover more here:https://bit.ly/3xndqjc #Board #healthcare #regulation #publicsafety
