Highlights included the Karolinska Institutet Medical Management Centre (MMC) & EHMA Research Award, which recognises outstanding early career researchers in healthcare management. 🏥 Assessing Value-Based Healthcare Implementation in Dutch Hospitals at the #EHMA2024 ConferenceProf Dr. Paul Bastiaan van der Nat from St. Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein, The Netherlands presented an abstract at the session 'Quality of Care and Value-Based Health Services,' focusing on the implementation of value-based healthcare (VBHC) in the Netherlands through a quantitative analysis of multidisciplinary team performance.The abstract, titled 'Value-Based Healthcare Implementation in the Netherlands: A Quantitative Analysis of Multidisciplinary Team Performance,' explores the current status of VBHC implementation among Integrated Practice Units (IPUs) and Value Improvement (VI) teams in Dutch hospitals.💡 Key Findings:- The study utilized a 21-question questionnaire mapped to seven domains: 'Multidisciplinary Teams,' 'Measure and Improve Outcomes,' 'Costs and Reimbursem*nts,' 'Collaboration and Sharing,' 'IT and Data,' 'Culture and Responsibility,' and 'Strategy and Organizational Policy.'- With 140 VI team members participating, the overall average score was 3.49.The 'Culture and Responsibility' domain received the highest average score (μ=4.11), indicating strong team trust and shared responsibility for care quality.- Domains 'Measure and Improve Outcomes' and 'Multidisciplinary Team' scored slightly above the overall average (μ=3.78 and μ=3.76, respectively), reflecting good inclusion of necessary staff and focus on outcome measurement.- 'Strategy and Organizational Policy,' 'Collaboration and Sharing,' and 'IT and Data' domains scored below the average (μ=3.41, μ=3.32, and μ=3.29, respectively), suggesting room for improvement in these areas.- The 'Costs and Reimbursem*nts' domain had the lowest average score (μ=2.42), highlighting a lag in implementing financial aspects of VBHC.💭 Discussion: The results show active engagement across various VBHC domains, with notable differences. The financial aspects of VBHC need more focus, as earlier research indicated a strong emphasis on outcome measurement over cost measurement and value-based payment. Enhanced patient collaboration and network partnerships are also recommended.
